This training, organized in partnership with
ANAP, allowed participants to discover how the Catalan system works and to familiarize themselves with the technological innovations shaping home hospitalization in Spain.
The French delegation, composed of healthcare professionals from various departments across metropolitan France and overseas territories (Alsace, Île-de-France, La Réunion, Guadeloupe, Normandy, and Aquitaine), was accompanied by two renowned experts:
The first afternoon was dedicated to an immersion in the local healthcare system at
UNIO Catalana d’Hospitals, the Catalan association of hospitals, healthcare, and social services. Delegates had the opportunity to engage with several experts, including
Maria Pueyo, director of care at La Unió,
Rosa Vidal, director of economics and payment systems at La Unió, and Francesc Xavier Jimenez, president of the
Catalan HaH Association and director of the HaH service at
Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. These exchanges provided insights into current practices and protocols in home hospitalization in Barcelona and served as a foundation for the following visits.
The second day began with a visit to
Hospital Clinic Barcelona, one of the largest community hospitals in the region, serving 500,000 residents and offering a wide range of specialized care. The delegates were welcomed by
Dr Emmanuel Coloma, HaH coordinator, and
Dr Jordi Altes, deputy medical director, who presented the innovative tools and practices in place, such as:
- A fast track pathway for scheduled surgeries
- A dashboard with 53 evaluation indicators
- Patient telemonitoring with chatbots
- The use of artificial intelligence to select patients eligible for HaH
In the afternoon, the delegation visited
Hospital del Mar, where discussions with
Dr Ariadna Brase Arnau highlighted best practices and current challenges in home hospitalization.
On the final day, delegates visited
Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, an institution recognized for its humanistic approach to patient care. They explored the
Command Center, an innovative system that centralizes and analyzes real-time data to improve the management of home care. It consists of three main areas: a
multi-channel contact center for proactive and personalized care,
eCare, dedicated to telemedicine and patient telemonitoring, and a control center to monitor the progress of emergencies, hospitalizations, and infrastructure status. This organization allows for smoother patient care and real-time monitoring of resources and infrastructure. The system improves bed management, patient flow, and clinical data control, such as pain measurement, with information shared across services. The
liquid hospital project, which prioritizes home care for children, is also part of this innovative approach, involving a team of 50 professionals and 20 vehicles for home visits.
The mission concluded with a
debriefing session, where delegates were able to deepen their understanding and discuss the implications of the innovations discovered for their practice in France.
This study trip allowed the French delegation to
explore innovative home hospitalization models and draw inspiration from
the best Catalan practices to enhance their own approach to home care in France. Numerous ideas and solutions emerged from the exchanges with Spanish experts, paving the way for concrete improvements to enhance the quality of home care in France.
Testimonial: "A very well-organized trip, high-quality speakers, enriching and stimulating exchanges" – Céline, French delegate.
