Youth mental health: four Lublin professionals meet Irish CAMHS teams
Dublin, Tullamore, Ireland · 26–28 October 2026
From 26 to 28 October 2026, four mental health professionals from Prof. M. Kaczyński Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Lublin, Poland, undertook a three-day mission organised by Dialog Health with SUN & MORE in Dublin and Tullamore, examining how specialist community services for children and adolescents, CAMHS, organise care.
From 26 to 28 October 2026, Dialog Health organised a three-day mission to Ireland with SUN & MORE for four delegates from Prof. M. Kaczyński Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Lublin, Poland. These mental health professionals, some of them in training, came to examine how specialist community services for children and adolescents organise care. The professional programme comprised two days in Dublin and Tullamore.
The HSE's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provided the common thread. The purpose was to understand how a specialist team assesses needs, organises treatment and works with families in a community setting. Presentations and professional exchanges provided a framework for comparing service functions and relationships.
Cabra: examining assessment and coordination
At Cabra CAMHS, based at Grangegorman Primary Care Centre in Dublin, Dr Ciaran Clarke led the presentation and discussion. The meeting addressed multidisciplinary assessment and treatment in a specialist community service. Family participation formed part of the service context presented to the visitors.
For the Lublin professionals, the focus was on reading clinical expertise and coordination together: how do different professionals contribute to assessment, and how is their work organised around a child or adolescent? The exchanges provided a setting for comparing the allocation of responsibilities and communication between professionals.
Blanchardstown: understanding specialist community care
The delegation also visited Blanchardstown CAMHS at Corduff Primary Care Centre. This specialist service is based within a primary care centre. For professionals from a hospital, the aim of this stage was to examine the community model and the relationship between specialist expertise and local services.
Offaly: placing specialist services in their local context
At Offaly CAMHS, based at Tullamore Primary Care Centre, the delegation was hosted for a presentation and discussion. This meeting outside Dublin placed territorial organisation in view: specialist care located within a primary care centre. The relationships between professionals, families and local services provided the focus for understanding the setting.
The three visits frame a shared question: how to organise specialist expertise close to a young person's everyday environment, connecting multidisciplinary work with family relationships. To pursue this comparison in Lublin, practical questions follow: how should responsibilities be shared between hospital and community services, how can families retain identifiable points of contact, and how should information move between teams? Responses will need to reflect available resources, referral arrangements and the local organisation of care.
